Oral Pathology is the specialty that identifies and treats diseases of the mouth and maxillofacial region. Diagnosis is completed through radiographic, microscopic, biochemical and other in office examinations. Oral pathologists provide biopsy services for dentists and offer their clinical diagnosis based on their findings. Some of the diseases that Oral Pathologists diagnose include mouth and throat cancer, mumps, salivary gland disorders, ulcers, odontogenic infections, and others.
This is why we perform oral cancer screenings at each routine exam and follow the standard of care with dental x-rays. We feel that your overall dental health is our responsibility and if anything is found that needs further evaluation we will refer you to an oral surgeon so they can evaluate the area and biopsy if needed. They will then send this biopsy to an oral pathologist that can make a final diagnosis.
